2ª noite Vancouver

O espectaculo foi marcado por pequenos disturbios causados por fãs mais «excitados», que foram empurrados para fora da Elipse necessitando de ajuda. Foi chamado ao palco uma fã para cantar com Bono Yahweh, mas de imediato abandonou o palco devido aos seus comportamentos.

Concerto Vancouver

Antes de ir para o ar a musica One, Bono atacou Paul Martin (primeiro ministro canadiano) por nao ter cumprido com o prometido na ajuda ao combate da pobreza mundial. Surgiu nos ecrãs o numero de telemovel do ministro, e Bono incentivou todos os fãs a a telefonarem a Martin.
Gavin Friday assistiu ao espectaculo.

Video do 3º single

Os U2 estiveram hoje a gravar o video para o seu proximo single «City Of Blinding Lights» que estará à venda em toda a Europa a partir do próximo dia 13 de Junho. A banda convidou ainda 4000 fãs para assitirem a gravação do video no GM Place, Vancouver, o video será uma actuação ao vivo. O teledisco é realizado pelos mesmos que criaram Veritgo, Alex e Martin. No final, os U2 tocaram ainda para os 4000 fãs Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own e All Because Of You.

You do the Hokey-Pokey, And you turn yourself around, That's what it's all about"

Entrevista a Adam e Larry

O U2.Com entrevistou Adam e Larry, sobre a Vertigo Tour. O U2Only publica aqui a entrevista na integra para que todos a possam ler:

U2.Com - What’s your feeling after the first few shows ?

ADAM: ‘It was amazing that by the second show in it actually felt like we’d never been away. That was an inspiring feeling as it is four years since we were last out on tour. People are saying that it sounds like we have been playing that set for years, that the band is really tight and playing well together.’

LARRY: ‘It’s been going well, although it was odd initially to start off a tour and be changing the set so dramatically every night. You’d arrive in and it’s one set - an hour later it’s changed. But I like the fact that it challenges your audience: people are realising we are experimenting a bit and so, if you screw up, they don’t say, ‘Oh it wasn’t as good as last time!’ because it’s in a different place this time. I have the feeling our audience enjoy the experimentation – that it’s a thrill if you are a fan and the band come out every night doing something slightly different.’

U2.Com - You have had a group of people around you in the opening days offering advice and ideas - Gavin Friday, Steve Lillywhite, Willie Williams and so on. It’s not just the four of you making the decisions.

ADAM: ‘It’s very necessary because so much of what we do is based on being on-stage and you can only have a perspective on that if you are someone offstage. Otherwise it takes you a very long time to get up to speed. People like Gavin know our shows from the past, they know the problems of being on stage and they know how to pace a show these days.’

LARRY: ‘You are trying to find the optimum running order for new and old songs in your set – and then you want to find your second running order and your third. It takes an army of people and everyone has a different opinion. What works for one person may not work for someone else. And it’s an open forum, you are hearing things from everyone which is exciting but also at some stages a little nerve-racking.’

U2.Com - By all accounts in the days before the tour opened, rehearsals were not quite plain-sailing?

ADAM: ‘Even though we rehearse and we prepare, we do tend to fly a little bit by the seat of our pants at the beginning of a tour. Everything tends to happen at the last minute and it takes a while for all the production and other technology issues to catch up to where we are. We hadn’t really played through a committed set until that first show in front of an audience in San Diego. That’s when we said, ‘OK, we have committed to this running order, let’s see if it works’.
And as the tour progresses there are always little tweaks going on, it’s about balance and contrast. We’re thinking about all those things available to us in a live setting and so we’re asking: which songs complement each other; which songs cut across each other; what is the lighting and production doing; where are you on the stage? It’s a bit of a rubrics cube trying to get all the parts to fit together.’

LARRY: ‘I said recently that sometimes getting on stage was excruciating and this was taken out of context. People thought I meant it was excruciating being on stage but what I meant was that sometimes the pressure to get it right and to be brilliant is overwhelming because you see the way your audience reacts and you really want to deliver – you really want it to be great.
‘We know that we are good at this stuff, but we also know that we are not worthy of some of the accolades we receive. These are huge things - people queuing up to buy your tickets, people going to a lot of trouble, people being disappointed. We know ourselves that there are things that we still need to do, that we have not quite earned the accolades that have been bestowed on us and it’s one of the reasons that the band continues to push this rock. We’ve got the stripes and I’m not sure that we’ve earned them.
‘It’s about self-respect, there are people out there who really do this very well and don’t get the accolades we have. Sometimes I feel personally that I get away with it, that I am not a great musician but a great member of U2. I don’t think I could do this with anyone else… I don’t want to but I’m not sure that I could.’

U2.Com - After the first few shows Adam, you have started to use the stage and the ellipse a lot more. Does it take a while for you to become familiar with your territory during a show?

ADAM: ‘I have to say it does take quite a long time for me to not be surprised for example by the rhythm of the set, or by what the lighting or the screens will be doing. Between songs in the early shows I might be thinking about which bass I am on or my monitor needs. All these things have an implication for what I might be doing physically onstage. ‘And then I have to be aware of what Bono and Edge are doing. As well as playing the songs, your proximity to the other musicians as performers is something you are regulating. At certain times, for example, I need to be close to the Edge, and I am thinking about where he is on the stage - for certain songs you need a more physical connection.
‘But once things start to settle down, once the ebb and flow of the set is settled in me and I get a feeling for what’s right, then I become much more relaxed, my antennae are not at quite the same fever pitch and I become more instinctive on stage.’

U2.Com - Do you have any highlights in the show yet ?

LARRY: ‘There are a few moments. I think the beginning of ‘City of Blinding Lights’ is quite spectacular, and the way that ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’ runs into ‘Bullet the Blue Sky’ and then into ‘Running to Stand Still’ is becoming a real moment. ‘It’s also quite a challenge for me: this is the first time that I can remember – since very early on, since the eighties – that I have been basically full-tilt during a show. Back there it was for an hour, but now it is for two hours. We also have a lot of up-tempo songs in the set which I have to say is tiring. After the show I come offstage and I’m pretty exhausted, I can’t really function for a while - it’s a long time since I’ve played at this intensity!
‘But there is no experience like this, seeing people mouthing the words of new songs and old songs, seeing people getting so into your music… it’s a pretty amazing thing. One of the few experiences in our life that you really can’t take for granted and it’s different every night, it’s never the same.’

U2.Com - Are there particular new songs that you are pleased with in the show ?

ADAM: I think ‘Love and Peace’ has turned into a tour de force. I knew it had the potential but it is now really great, especially when it opens the show. ‘City of Blinding Lights’ I really like but maybe a particular moment is ‘Sometimes…’ - that seems to really connect with people. ‘Miracle Drug’ is growing as a song and we are really belting out a good version of ‘All Because Of You’. We could be playing ten songs off the new album and I think at some point we’ll get around to ‘Crumbs’ and ‘Original of the Species’.

LARRY: ‘Miracle Drug’ is one of my favourite songs on the record, it is so close to being absolutely spellbinding. ‘City of Blinding Lights’ is a song that needs to be played before an audience to really find out what the song is about, ‘Love and Peace’ again is a great idea, but I think it’s just not there yet…

U2.Com - And you’ve got a problem there with your additional drummer !

LARRY: Well, he’s really screwing it up for everybody! And he’s wrecking the drums too, that’s the other thing - you want to see the skin off the drum, its pummelled and I’m not giving him a new skin every set!’

Bono critica 1º ministro canadiano

«Bono criticou o Primeiro-Ministro do Canadá, Paul Martin, por este não ter mantido a sua promessa de ajuda internacional.
O vocalista dos U2 diz ter sido «enganado» pelo governante canadiano, que havia prometido aumentar as contribuições solidárias do Canadá para o equivalente de 0,7% do seu Produto Nacional Bruto (PNB).
«Esperávamos que o Canadá liderasse [a iniciativa] e não que fosse retardatário», disse Bono numa entrevista à rádio CBS. «Esta não é uma altura para governarmos apenas internamente. Eu percebo que há problemas no país. Mas não se esqueça, Primeiro-Ministro, como a história vai ser recordada neste momento».
O cantor e activista social anunciou ainda, em directo, o número de telefone do gabinete de Paul Martin e encorajou os ouvintes a ligarem ao governante para reclamações. O líder canadiano está actualmente a tentar salvar o seu governo minoritário, na sequência de um escândalo financeiro.»

Adam «saca» musicas da net!

Em entrevista ao Net Music, Adam Clayton revelou que faz downloads de musicas na internet, só não revelou, se os downloads são feitos em serviços pagos, e portanto legais, se por outras formas que usam a maioria dos cibernautas:

«[...] It's no secret that the members of U2 are big supporters of the iPod. In an interview with the San Jose Mercury News, U2's Adam Clayton shared his thoughts about the future of downloading and music distribution.
"I think definitely downloading is here to stay," says Clayton. "It's a very convenient way to get music, but I think it is true that music distribution is going to come a number of different ways; probably in the end it's going to be mixed up with your phone service...And, you know, your phone will also become your digital music player."
So does the U2 bassist ever download? He admits, "Occasionally, I do . . . but I still like the hard copy."
And what music does Clayton like to download or buy? "Arcade Fire. And a band out of England called Bloc Party that are really great," he says, adding "And then there's the Killers. You'd probably heard them."[...]»

Passatempo Bootleg

O U2Only e o U2Weblog numa iniciativa conjunta que tem por fim dar o conhecimento da obra dos U2 ao vivo, promover a troca deste tipo de material, e sobretudo para estabelecermos laços de amizade aqui entre os que já são fãs e os que ainda não são, vamos "oferecer" duas bootlegs" este mês.
A primeira é a da imagem, "En el fin fin del mundo" em Santiago do Chile a 11/02/1998. São dois cd`s de altíssima qualidade, para mim dos melhores concertos dos U2 a seguir aos concertos que se realizaram na Irlanda, Brasil e Portugal.
Obviamente que não podemos oferecer a todos que lêem este post.
Serão oferecidos somente dois exemplares desta bootleg.
A primeira será ao primeiro blogger do Weblog que se registar no grupo U2only, i.é que tenha um blog num Weblog após o registo no U2Only envie um mail para u2_only@hotmail.com com o seu mail de registo no grupo e o endereço do seu blog.

A cidade de Charlotte vai receber um concerto da légua americana da Vertigo Tour Outono. O concerto decorrerá a 12 de Dezembro e os bilhetes estarão à venda a partir do dia 23 de abril de 2005.

Airbus decorado à Vertigo!

Tal como aconteceu nas Tours anteriores, o avião que transporta os U2 de cidade em cidade foi decorado de forma alusiva à mesma.
Para a primeira légua, os U2 fretaram um Airbus A-320 da Air Canada para se deslocarem a San Jose, Phoenix (Glendale), Denver, Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago, Philadelphia e Boston.

O canal musical VH1 vai transmitir a partir de hoje imagens da Vertigo Tour//2005 no programa «All Access» que irá para o ar duas vezes por dia.
O programa conta com imagens do ensaios no México e Canadá, e do primeiro concerto em San Diego. Terá repetição durante o fim de semana.

EDUN na net

A marca de roupa EDUN criada por Ali, esposa de Bono, já tem um site na internet, onde apresenta a sua colecção e um video de apresentação de imprensa.
É ainda possivel descobrir el alguns bolsos da roupa, o seguinte poema de Rilke:

The Unicorn

The saintly hermit, midway through his prayers
stopped suddenly, and raised his eyes to witness

Famosos em Los Angeles

Os espectaculos que os U2 deram em Los Angeles contou com a presença de vários famosos, entre eles esteve Flea, Jon Bon Jovi, John Cusak e Brad Pitt, no entanto, apenas Orlando Bloom faz a critica ao concerto para o canal BBC:

«Orlando Bloom is one of the first A list U2 fans to catch their tour and he's given us a review.
Bono confessed that they were sounding so bad in rehearsals the tour was under threat just weeks before it kicked off in California.
But Orlando is having none of it. He's giving their Vertigo tour a big thumbs up after watching them in LA and reckons the tour has an important message:
"Bono, who's such a remarkable man, had a screen which projected the 1948 UN declaration of human rights."
"The first six chapters of it all said, basically that we are a fellowship, a brotherhood, each man is equal.
"What an amazing message to play at a cool, huge concert where he's just rocked out and given everyone a great show."
"And it was cool to see it, the only way Bono knows how."
"He had a bandage on his head which said 'Jew, Christian...' ie. we're all on the same planet as one, at some point we have to realise we're all connected as a family." »

O livro «Bono In Conversation With Michka Assayas» já tem data prevista de lançamento, será em Junho, mas algumas livrarias já fazem a reserva do mesmo. O livro conta com 323 páginas nas quais, em entrevista a Michka Assayas, Bono fala da sua vida.

Como é que isto funciona!?

Em entrevista ao programa americano Access Hollywood, os U2 foram confrontados com um Ipod U2, e o apresentador desafiou-os a utiliza-lo.
Resultado: The Edge pensava que o aparelho era activado pela voz, e Larry teve muito que transpirar para conseguir ligar.

Novo album em 2006!?

Segundo uma noticia publicada no Anti Music e referindo Bono numa entrevista à revista Rolling Stone, para o ano podemos ter novo album! O album conterá musicas que não fora contidas no How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, e será um verdadeiro cd rock:

«Since being released in November of 2004, U2’s latest record How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb has gone on to sell over 9 million copies, spawned three hit singles (two of them reached number 1 in the UK), and has been the subject of countless positive reviews.
There are rumours circling the Internet of a possible U2 album to be released in spring or summer 2006. Feeding these rumours, Bono was quoted in Rolling Stone late last year as saying “I think there will be a record in 2006. Because we're on it now. But I don't think it's a healthy state of mind to imagine that this band should go on and on. Everyone in it asks very hard questions about its continuing.” As reported U2 left various tracks off How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb that did not fit in with the overall sound of the record. Many of these songs were rumoured to be more aggressive in nature, which may explain early explanations of the album being guitar driven.
In the Rolling Stone interview, Bono talked about the sessions of How to Dismantle An Atomic Bob. “There's a certain hit you want to get off a song, and we weren't getting it from the material. It happens. And that's the problem. We're addicted to that feeling. We could have had an album out [earlier], and it would have been pretty damn good. You would have really liked it, because it was a rock & roll album. But we have to sing these songs for the rest of our lives, and they have to work on so many levels.”
Bono then went on to say “Two years -- it's a song a month. There are twenty-four songs that came out of the sessions. Eleven of them are on the album.” (How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb)
The Vertigo tour kicked off in San Diego on March 28th and is expected to go well into 2006 so right now there are no plans to go into the studio to record. Most likely a new record would surface in 2007 but the possibility of a new U2 record in 2006 cannot be ruled out entirely. In 1993, during a break in the massive ZOO TV tour, U2 recorded what was to be Zooropa. The album was released only a year and half after their groundbreaking album Achtung Baby.»

O U2Log disponibilizou um breve video do concerto do dia 6 de Abril em Los Angeles, em que uma fã invade o palco. Bono havia convidado uma delas para o acompanhar durante o tema Mysterious Ways, ao que outra fã invade o palco, e põe Bono a fugir dela com a primeira. A não perder.

Luta contra a Pobreza

Depois de a campanha Make Proverty History ter lançado um video em que várias personalidades, entre elas Bono, estalavam os dedos, surge agora um outro, em que Nelson Mandela faz um apelo aos jovens de todo o mundo para se mobilizarem na luta contra a pobreza mundial, especialmente em África, e pede aos lideres do G8 para que ponham em prática os seus objectivos. O video conta como som de fundo com a musica dos U2 Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own.

Vertigo Tour esteve em risco!

«Em entrevista ao NME.com, Bono afirmou que a Vertigo Tour correu o risco de não se realizar.
Recorde-se que a digressão de promoção ao álbum "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" arrancou na passada semana, depois de um adiamento de um mês, causado por problemas de saúde de um familiar de um dos quatro músicos dos U2.
Nas semanas que antecederam o começo da tournée, o nervosismo apoderou-se do grupo de Dublin.
«Os ensaios para esta digressão punham-nos doentes. Não nos conseguíamos motivar. Se tivessem visto o ensaio para o espectáculo, não acreditavam que íamos [tocar como] em San Diego», considera Bono, que escolheu para primeira data da Vertigo Tour aquela cidade da Califórnia.
«Pegámos em muitos elementos diferentes e tentámos criar algo de especial. E quando chegámos ao palco, tivermos sorte e acertamos logo. O problema é que nós nem sequer sabíamos se esta tournée iria acontecer», revela o vocalista dos U2. «Houve tantos obstáculos - problemas pessoais e coisas importantes a ultrapassar, que, para mim, é incrível que tenhamos conseguido».
«Não tivemos muito tempo para ensaiar, mas queríamos tocar. Vejo [em nós] uma banda com muito para provar, mas também uma banda que nunca se sentiu tão confortável na sua própria pele», resume Bono, explicando ainda a apresentação, na Vertigo Tour, de três canções do primeiro disco dos U2, "Boy", de 1980.
«Há uma forte ligação entre essas canções e o novo álbum. O nosso primeiro [disco] era uma ode à inocência e no novo, essa inocência é recuperada. O primeiro álbum está a tornar-se numa espécie de clássico de culto para bandas como os The Killers, que falam muito nele. Achámos que era altura [de recuperá-lo]», argumenta Bono, que descreve da seguinte forma o concerto inicial da Vertigo Tour: «Às vezes parecia um comício político, outras uma tenda de gospel, outras ainda um espectáculo em Las Vegas».
Os U2 actuam em Portugal no próximo dia 14 de Agosto. O estádio Alvalade XXI é o local escolhido para acolher a banda irlandesa.»

Terminado o passatempo do mês de Março em que tinhamos para oferecer uma bootleg do concerto da ZooTv Tour que passou por Portugal em Março de 1993, eis as respotas correctas :

Realizado por David Wojnarowicz, os bufalos representam o pai e o filho da canção, o filho que sofre de sida que fala ao pai que o pôs fora de casa, mas que afinal são sangue do mesmo sangue; é uma metáfora o fim desse vídeo, quando eles se suicidam.
P.S.: Neste caso a frase mais criativa seria a vencedora

Acaba de ser confirmado qual o terceiro single do album How To dismantle An Atomic Bomb a ser lançado no Japão a 8 de Junho, é o tema City Of Blinding Lights. Para a europa ainda não há nada confirmado, mas poderá ser este mesmo tema ou All Because Of You, segundo single americano.

Celebridades contra a pobreza

Bono juntou um grupo de celebridades como Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Hugh Grant, COlin Firth, Justin Timberlake, Kylie Minogue, Kate Moss entre outros para aparecerem num video para promover a campanha Make Poverty History.
No video as celebridades estalam os dedos durante três segundos, para salientar que em cada três segundos, uma criança morre em extrema pobreza.
